The Islamic Law Of Dhimmi Against Non-Muslims (Particularly Christians)

Militant Islamist fighters take part in a military parade along the streets of Syria’s northern Raqqa province June 30, 2014.

Under Islamic rule, non-Muslims are treated differently. Non-Muslims, particularly people of the book (Jews and Christians) are given “Dhimmi” status. When Daesh (ISIS) took over Mosul and other Iraqi and Syrian cities, Christians were given the option of either converting to Islam, leaving, or paying the jizya tax.

Quran 9:29“Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.”

Examples of this can be seen throughout Islamic history.

Around the late ninth century, Tariqu al-Hakim, the sixth Fatimid Islamic caliph in Egypt, required all Christians in his Islamic caliphate to wear a four-pound cross around their necks and Jews to wear a four-pound carving of a calf (for having worshiped the golden calf idol) (Rodney Stark, God’s Battalions, p. 90).

After the Muslims conquered Syria in the seventh century, the non-Muslim dhimmis had to wear special identifying clothing and clip the fronts of their hair. The dhimmis were not allowed to own their own weapons, ride on saddles, display crosses or copies of the Bible, or hold public religious ceremonies or prayers. They also had to take in any Muslim traveler and give him three days’ food and lodging (Trifkovic, The Sword of the Prophet, p. 105).

As stated before, when Daesh (IS) took over various Iraqi and Syrian cities, non-Muslims (particularly Christians) were given the option of either converting to Islam, leaving their homes, or paying the jizya tax to keep their faith. (“A Conversation with Christian Syrian Refugees,” Religious Freedom Coalition, June 1, 2013).

Muslims are spiritual descendants of Ishmael, and Ishmael is described as being a “wild man” and such a description is fitting of Muslims.

Genesis 16:11-12 (KJV) – “And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. (12) And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”
